War Horse Movie Review

'War horse' is a historcal, fictional and a family movie which all aged people are able to enjoy watching. Steven Spielberg who is the director of this movie has fashioned Michael Mourpurgo's best-selling novel, which also has the same name 'War Horse'. The cast include Jeremy Irvine as Albert Narracott, a young teenage boy who is the son of a tough West Country farmer Ted, played by Peter Mullan and Rose is a tough-minded mother played by Emily Watson and Tom Hiddleston as Captain James Nicholls who is the British officer who has a wide heart for Albert and Joey as the horse, which is a leading character even though he's not a human.

This story begins from Devon, England where the Narracotts family lives. There is a horse auction in the village where Ted's eye faces on a horse called Joey. He buys Joey, a Throughbred as much as 30 guineas even though he doesn't need him. He brings Joey home and was immediately drawn to the animal. Albie (Ted's son) also witness the birth of the foal. However, Rosie (Ted's wife) is outraged and she asks Ted to take him back to the auction where he bought Joey. After hearing this, Albie refuses and offers to train Joey. Albie was able to plough the field. The Narracott family needs money and has plans of planting turnips in their rocky bottom field. Ted promises the landlord, Lyons that the debts will soon be paid. So Albie works hard training the horse and finally Joey is able to plough the whole field. But because they can't afford to pay all the debts, Ted makes up his mind to sell Joey to the captain soldier who is Captain Nicholls. Will fate bring Joey and Albie back together again?

This movie has lots of dramatic scenes between Albie and Joey. They made those scenes more emotional and tender by their great acting. The actors in this movie were all able to move people's heart. Due to their fascinating acting skills, some of the actors from this movie won awards as the result. The behind reasons of their heartfelt and marvelous acting scenes were also helped by the camera angles. The camera angles create different kinds of effects in a situation, which may tell a story into various stories. By different types of camera angles, we are able to communicate in various expressions through our vision. For example, there was a scene using the extreme close up shot, which showed the details of what the director wanted the viewers to focus in that scene. The actors are able to create scenes with more powerful expressions according to the situations through the help of the camera angles.


This movie is really worth seeing. Some people may say that this is a childish fictional story but they wouldn't be able to stop the movie because even though it is a fictional movie, it will still touch the bottom of your heart. You shouldn't miss it because the bond between human and animal, which the production treats so movingly, is bound to touch our hearts!
